Position Description

We are looking for an experienced Communications Director to help us build and codify the ICIC brand and elevate our national profile and presence.  You will work across all levels and departments to capture and distill what makes us unique and communicate it to the world.  Reporting to our CEO and with significant collaboration with our Director of Development, the Communications Director has overall responsibility for our marketing efforts, public relations, collateral and branded materials, social media and digital marketing, working closely with and supervising our Senior Communications Associate.



Research and planning

  • Conduct market research to keep up to date with market trends, monitor competitors’ activities, plan and forecast
  • Codify and communicate our vision and mission
  • Develop and lead annual planning for communications in collaboration with the CEO and Director of Development
  • Translate strategy into annual and multi-year communication plans


Campaigns and marketing

  • Develop and supervise strategically aligned annual public relations campaigns
  • Leverage annual communications plan, develop strategies and manage new and ongoing marketing campaigns across print and online platforms
  • Supervise production of blog, social media, and monthly newsletter content to ensure alignment with brand identity and annual communications calendar


Media Relations

  • Manage media outreach, direct media pitching, edit media releases, and oversee media requests and speaking inquiries


Reporting and evaluation

  • Analyze the success of marketing campaigns, media outreach, and other events by collecting and interpreting data
  • Measure and report performance of all marketing campaigns, and assess ROI and KPIs



  • Align internal stakeholders around the brand direction, choices, and tactics
  • Work with external PR and design firm consultants, ensuring consistency in marketing and branding
  • Identify opportunities for cross-functional collaboration working with colleagues across multiple departments and programs



  • Proven experience leading an organization or company’s rebranding
  • Ability to develop our brand and marketing strategies and successfully communicate recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience identifying target audiences and devising effective campaigns
  • Excellent understanding of the full marketing mix
  • Strong analytical skills, data-driven, and an affinity for numbers and KPIs, complemented by a creative mind
  • Outstanding interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Up-to-date with the latest trends and marketing best practices as well as knowledge of the media landscape, both conventional and unconventional
  • Advanced knowledge of platforms such as WordPress, Hootsuite, Mailchimp, Salesforce a plus
  • Experience managing and leading a team of marketing professionals as well as external marketing vendors
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience and degree in marketing or a related field preferred with a minimum of 5 years of public relations experience. Experience in journalism is a plus.
